Ready for DC

Hey Everybody,

Not a lot of time to savor the win against San Jose.  Tomorrow night we host an in-form DC United.  Looks like we’re in good shape injury wise, and with Jaqua and Kennedy off suspension we look to be back to full strength.  We want to build off of the success the other night and keep working our way back to the top of the table.  DC having had a poor start to the season have worked themselves up to the top of the East.   DC are a very attack minded team who like to out score their opponents.  We need to be wary of their potent offense, but with the number of players they like to commit forward we should have plenty of goalscoring chances ourselves.  Makes for a fun game to watch.  Let’s be honest, what is really fun is watching your team win!  So let’s score lots of goals and we can watch us win together.  You guys from the stands and on TV, and ideally, me from the goal with nothing to do but applaud the good play in front of me.

Over the years DC has tried to say that they are the home of soccer in the US.  They had some good MLS success early on and won a couple championships.  There  have also been some big games there for the National Team at RFK.  DC has a good faithful crowd, but I can’t wait for them to see  the new home for soccer in the US!  We have the Staduim, the Crowd, and the Team.

Scarves Up!

DC is a class franchise. I hope they get a stadium deal that keeps them in DC. That said, can we get finally get the free hair cut tomorrow?

The home for soccer until they see Qwest Field in action! They’re going to be rattled to say the least!

    I’ll be in Section 124 chanting KAY-SEE KELL-ER!! :)

Civ will be back 100% tonight supporting his Sounders FC right behind the net! A petty crook can’t stop Gorilla FC from being there for our team!

    Go Sounders FC!

Great game last night Kasey. I don’t know what was up with our back line tonight but there were more missed marks than normal. Kind of frustrating to blow a 3-1 lead. I’m not saying we should be playing Chivas style of anti-football, but please get this team to not push so hard all the time. I’m interested to hear if you saw it the same way, but I don’t think we need to overlap so much when we got a two goal lead. We just weren’t working as hard to get back on defense as we were making the runs at the goal as I saw it. Awesome atmosphere last night though and lots of beautiful saves from you. You definitely deserved a win.

    Kasey-

You’re quoted as saying “we rightfully got booed off the field.” Not a soul in the stands was booing you guys. We were booing DC for their horrible delays of the game. You’re right about that game being a huge disappointment… but I for one will never boo my own team. Give your fans more credit, we’re going to support our team, not boo them.

  6. Jeff says:

Well, you guys scored ‘lots’ of goals and were able to attack them great pretty much all game. One of the most exciting games I’ve seen in the MLS. You really kept them in check until the 70th minute or so. Then people forgot how to play defense! Once again the referees didn’t help much but I think we’ve all figured out at this point that there just isn’t quality refereeing in the MLS. The guys should really learn to just accept their ineptitude and play on and not complain so much on the field. (Though I would do the same thing if I were out there!)

Enjoyed your ‘tirade’ in the Seattle Times this a.m. You should repost that here as well!

Always a faithful ECFC member and Sounders fan/season tix holder…

    Kasey,

    Just read the article

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundersfcblog/2009353171_kasey_kellers_tirade.html

And I want to be clear on this, no supporters were booing you guys. We were booing the officials and the DC players for their antics and their outright crap.

We love you guys. Plain and simple. We, the supporters, don’t want our boys thinking that we have hostility towards them.

    Thanks man,

    Dan

    p.s. keep doing your thing!

Kasey I want you to know that at the end of the game we didn’t boo your guys performance, we were booing DC as they were leaving the field. You are awesome thank you for joining the sounders in our innaugural MLS year and thank you for lighting a fire after the game good luck in Ney York and can’t wait for the return game against the rapids.

Kasey, I read Jose Romero’s blog about your post-DCU match tirade last night. While I understand and share your frustration, one of your comments bears addressing. You mentioned the crowd booing the team at the end of the match. I believe the crowd was actually booing DCU and the subpar (well, par for MLS, unfortunately) officials. Sounders fans don’t eat their own, and we don’t boo our players. I can speak on behalf of all the fans in the north end, and we love our rave green boys to much to boo ya!

  10. Todd says:

    Hey Kasey,

Just want you know, the booing at the end of the game last night was NOT the fans frustrated with Seattle. It was the fans frustrated with DC being willing to accept a 3-3 tie and delaying the game. Particularly the goalie who consistently delayed during goal kicks and drew a pathetic response – a beer bottle tossed at him. Not to mention the Yellow issued for “delay of game” to a DC player during a throw-in.

Speaking for myself, while it was a frustrating turn of events, we did not give up hope for a 4-3 comeback. We just wanted the ball to get in play so you guys had a chance to do so!

  11. Please know that the fans appreciate your leadership on the field. Last night was a beautiful and painful game for the fans…but they are never boo’ing the Soundes. We love you guys!!! Keep up the hard work..and keep on those boys ;)

  12. Jeremy says:

    Kasey,

I just wanted to let you know that the booing at the end of the game last night was directed at the referee and the DC United players that decided wasting time was more fun than playing the game. While we were upset that the 3-1 line evaporated at the end of the game, we definitely were not booing our team. We still held out hope for a late Sounders goal. The ref continuously let DC’s goalie and other players waste time for the last several minutes and the fans were sick of it. He also failed to stop play after several hard fouls and we as fans were not happy about it. Marshall got checked extremely hard in the southwest corner of the field near the end and he let play go on instead of calling for a foul and a free kick near the box. Also, on DC’s second goal, Marshall was slide-tackled from behind on what appeared to be a clear foul and the ball went straight to Gomez who took two or three touches and then slotted it into the corner. There was a big void for him to step up and take the shot because Tyrone had just been taken out from behind and was still on the ground. Anyways, I saw your comment about the fans booing you guys off the field and I just wanted to let you know we were definitely booing DC United for their stall tactics and the ref for his poor game management. Good luck against NY on Saturday!

    Jeremy

    Hey Kasey

Just so you know, we weren’t booing the team off the field last night. We are behind you guys 100%, even when the going gets a little rough. I think most of the fans were booing the time stalling tactics of DC. We all get that stalling for draws is part of soccer, but I think the fans feel it is our job to point them out to the ref so he can get play moving again.

Bad luck last night, hope your rant helps get the D back on its best behavior. GL in NY this week.

  14. Chris says:

Casey I just wanted to address a second hand rumor I heard that you stated that the team was boo’d off the field last night. First of all I want to apologize for 29,000+ poor sports. This has happened at so many home games now and its just disheartening to me to say the least. I know that the fans are not booing the team, but they are in fact booing the officials as they walk off the field. However this has driven me crazy after each game that people are not putting those things aside and supporting the team in a positive manner at the end of a match. As you guys walk around the pitch, people boo… and now my biggest fear has come true that you the players actually took it as us “fans” booing the team. As a fan of the game you hope that your team can keep their heads and not get tied up in the officiating or other distractions during the game… but how we can expect you guys to do that when you have nearly 30k people doing just that.

I apologize sincerely Casey and I truly hope that you and the boys dont believe for a second that we are booing the team.

  15. Andy says:

Kasey! I read your comment about how you all got booed of the field. It’s not true! At least as far as I am concerned, neither me nor any of the people around us were booing the Sounders. We were definitely booing DC and Josh Hicks for their milking the clock at the end. I’m sure some people were booing the refs because fans always blame the refs even though he was one of the better ones I’ve seen. Besides, I’m the guy that asked you to be my best man at my wedding during your autograph session at the Pro Place last Sunday and I would never boo my best man! Good luck in Jersey!

    Sounders Til I Die!!!

    Andy

  16. Gary B. says:

Man up for calling out your teammates against DCU. Although I lay the blame at Sigi’s feet and his defensive substitutions (I love Sigi, btw) the boys on the pitch have to get the job done. We played DCU off the pitch and settled for a tie. Inescusable.

    Gary B.

PS. Please don’t retire until your old bones groan and say no mas!

  17. Peg says:

Hey, Kasey– Heard that you and the team thought you were being booed off the field. That seems unlikely. We in 109 were booing the officials, who once again seemed to have no control of the game. That was a really exciting game, and we stand behind the team 100%. Oh yeah, we were also booing Wicks for his over-the-top game delays. DC needs to buy him shorts that fit.

  18. Jared says:

Thank you Kasey for speaking up to the team after the DC game and saying what needed to be said. We’re not used to scoring so many goals, we need to realize that no lead is large enough and not lose focus late in the game. Hopefully the lessons we’ve learned from the first half of the season can be remedied for the second half.
    All the best,
    Jared

  19. Don Walker says:

I know you were disappointed with the result of this game just as the fans were. I was at the game and I was disappointed with the outcome, too. But I want to clarify that we ( I speak for everybody :) are not disappointed with the effort, the time, and dedication you put into every game. WE are disappointed that the result was not (and has not)been indicative of the 1. time of possession 2. speed of play 3. quality of passing that the Sounders have displayed vs. the other teams. Its those small miscues and “unluckys” that are giving the opponents the chances they capitalize on. You guys are getting so close to putting a complete 90 min game together. WE are there with you and for you always, win, lose or draw. Happy Fathers Day, Kasey!
