back from Denver

Hey everybody,

Wow!  Sometimes it’s great just being lucky.  Last night’s game started well enough with Fredy Montero getting back on the score sheet early in the first half, but that was where the game changed.  Quickly, the Rapids were level with a pretty good move down the left, then a good cross and an easy finish.  For the rest of the half it was hold on for dear life.  Somehow we happened to go into half -time all square.  That didn’t last long into the second half.  After all the good scoring chances Colorado created it took a big deflection for them to take the lead.  After we found ourselves down we seemed to gain a little bit of composure.  Colorado still had the majority of the play but we were finding our way slowly back into the game.  We were rewarded with about 15 minutes left, we got the ball into the box and Nate Jaqua smashed the ball in from close range.  Somehow against the run of play we found ourselves tied.  Colorado seemed a little stunned.  As they pushed forward to try to find the winner we found ourselves with space to counter attack.  Montero just misses wide with a good effort from the top of the box.  Colorado force me to make a good save late.  Them Zakuani had a great chance for us to win it and steal all three points.  Pickens, the Colorado goalkeeper , also made a good save and the game was halved.

Tough night, but just goes to show that if you never give up, keep fighting, and work hard for one another you just might get something for your effort.  Now as the injury list deepens, it’s even more important for the guys to step up and prove their worth.  Big cup game Tuesday and a time for some guys to prove they can do the job.

Better pilot for the flight home!  Enjoy your day off tomorrow, don’t get sunburned.

Good point on the road. It looked like the offense played better, starting about 30 minutes to go in the match. Hopefully that momentum will continue into next weeks game against the Crew.

game was awesome! we really stepped it up there in the end, to bad we didnt pull a win out of it, but oh well next time.

Kasey – You made a couple amazing saves…the one thrusting your arm to your left pushing the ball just wide of the post, the second it looked like you did the splits to nudge a shot just wide to your right. So proud of you man! Keep it up, you earned this point for the team, can’t wait to get 3 on them when they come to our house!

    Kasey,

Thanks for doing this blog. It’s excellent for us fans to get an unfiltered perspective from the inside every couple of days like this. I really appreciate it!

I was sitting next to some british soccer fans (on vacation) during the game with LA and I asked them what they felt was different between the atmosphere at british games versus the game they were attending. They said the main difference was the aggression of british soccer fans. I guess we’re pretty passive by comparison. I also related that to an interview you had done where you said that at some game the fans were fighting with mounted police behind your goal. That must have been something! I also heard that in Britain the visiting fans are kept physically separated for their own safety. Wow!

I’ve been amazed at how much criticism has been leveled at some of the players on our own team, especially when we draw or lose, which thank god hasn’t been that often. Recurring themes include 1) Jaqua is lazy and can’t head to save himself, 2) Montero is immature and egotistical, 3) Sturgis gives way too much room on defense, etc. Do you think it’s ok for fans to rip players for poor performance or is a fans’ role better as a 100% supporter of all the team’s players at all times?

I just found this site and it’s great. Thanks for the updates. I just wanted to say thank you for coming out to the gate and signing autographs for the kids. My two boys had a blast. We had driven up to Denver from Amarillo, TX. (I’m a native from Seattle and couldn’t get to the Dallas game) There were only a few of us out there, but we really appreciated the few guys that came out including you and Jaqua to chat with us a bit.
